Senior Cricket: Pre-Season

Although it may not seem like it, Spring is here and, with the end of winter, comes the prospect of a fresh cricket season. The season’s league fixtures have already been released and can soon be found on the WDCU and S&PCU websites and will soon be added to the club’s site. Before the season proper begins on 30 April, however, we will be getting ready the return of competitive cricket with a series of friendly matches, along with outdoor training.

Pre-Season Games

Our pre-season begins with a home tie against Meigle on Saturday 16 April. This is followed by a double-header the next Saturday as our 1st and 2nd XIs face the Morton’s respective XIs. The final pre-season game sees the County Dawgs play Eastern Premiership side RH Corstorphine.

  • 16/4/22 – Stirling County XI vs Meigle (Home)
  • 23/4/22 – 1st & 2nd XIs vs Morton 1st & 2nd XIs
  • 24/4/22 – Stirling County XI vs RH Corstorphine

After hugely successful and enjoyable indoor training sessions at Dollar Academy during the winter, the club held its first outdoor training session last Saturday (2 April). Our plan is to hold one more weekend training session on 10 April (invitations for this have already been sent out via Spond) before beginning mid-week training on Tuesday 19 April at 6pm.

Like last year, mid-week training will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, starting at 6pm. As was the case in 2021, Tuesday’s training will focus more on individual skills and 1-to-1 training. Thursday training will be club training night and will focus more on group exercises and traditional nets.

As with the winter nets, invitations to matches and summer training will be sent out via Spond 2-3 weeks before the scheduled event. Please make every effort to respond to these invitations with your availability as this will not only aid in team selection but will allow us to properly plan for senior training nights.

Training Overview

-           Focus on individual skills and on-to-one coaching

-          Utilisation of bowling machine and throwdowns

-           Team training night

-          Will feature fielding and fitness drills along with traditional net practice
